What to decide before building a garage
Size the garage for today's vehicles: many older two car garages are too shallow for a full size pickup. Permits, setbacks and HOAs
A detached garage needs a building permit and has to meet setbacks, height limits and impervious cover limits, which are tighter over the Edwards Aquifer zones in west Austin and parts of Hays and Williamson counties. HOAs in many Austin suburbs require the garage to match the house in roof pitch, materials and color. We check those rules before design.
